For the Sake of our Nation,
Negotiation,
not War
We Americans and residents of the United States request that our
government engage in a diplomatic resolution of the tensions with Iraq,
pursuing the opening for such a resolution as advocated by the United
Nations. Any opportunity for such a resolution should not be dismissed.
A war with Iraq initiated by the U.S. would involve the following:
*An engagement that could become far more prolonged than
expected, with unforeseeable consequences.
*Opponents of the US will use it as an opportunity to nourish
their prejudices and propaganda against US integrity, inciting further
aggression that could easily turn into a major war and further attacks
on our national security.
*The loss of an extraordinary American tradition and ideal:
that is, to intervene only when attacked and to promote global peace and
security.
We are concerned that the issue of war against Iraq is taking time and
resources away from the appropriate address of national security and the
current economic decline.
Congress, please listen to the voice of America
