Martin, I believe, leaves for Russia 28 November. He sent me a card pos-tal you, as V. Emden, and I received the letter of your friend archaeologist¹. Received today Jekels, via In. Emden, his article on Napoleon², that interest me at the highest point ; would you be kind enough to thank, because I did not address, I would be greatly obliged if you could send me magazines, whose Yearbook, via In. Emden ; D^r Bishop³ will visit him and go look for them during his next visit to The Hague. Loe and I also share all the letters, etc., we get, so as to have the latest news to you and your family. We especially look forward to hearing your son's fate, and know what happens Rank and Sachs.

I would give much to have an hour with you, I fear that we should postpone until summer 1916, perhaps, and I do not know about how to start a letter. I sincerely hope that you can distract some attention from the war, and focus on more productive tasks, ensure that the writings that come out of your increased leisure compensate, to a certain extent, other things (what Ferenczi called nachkriechende lust (4)). What the article on hysteria for Manual⁵? The same, What are you writing for Image ? I wrote to Payne to offer him a hand in the translation of the historical essay, if it agrees with Brill. You say it appears in the journal of Prince, pen-but I know it was in the Review of Jelliffe⁶. Janet has republished the statement of Congress Transactions in own Journal of Psychology and review of Prince⁷. It did not make any correction to its exposed fault, and I drafted a response that should appear in the December of Journal of Abnormal Psychology (8). As you can imagine, it is liberal, and calculated to affect his reputation in America.

We had only one meeting of our company since July, Here are fifteen. It was stormy. Unfortunately, there's nobody on my side, hormis Bryan, who does not know much, most members being passive spectators rather. But you can be sure I will do my best to defend our colors.

I get occasional German newspapers, and I knew and what our press says about poverty and cholera in Vienna in Galicia was greatly exaggerated. In return, I ask you to believe that the Bank of England has not been destroyed by bombs, to l’ Egypt and India have not revolted, our coasts and have not been bombed by the German fleet ! There is no animosity here against Austria, the idea being that it has been exploited by Germany. A distinction is made between smart Prussia and the rest, and resentment is great against his brutal arrogance and disregard for conventions of The Hague. There are many "sekundäre Bearbeitung" in the matter, and the low value of German science was discovered by the war, the same way that some people we could mention renounced their belief in infantile sexuality as pretexts for irrelevant. So it seems to me, I think I can keep a pretty good balance between the arguments of both sides, and the only real reason [for which I¹¹] I can give my desire that our side wins, is that, generally, the average Englishman me closer and friendlier than the average German, especially the Prussian way. It is hard to see how vital principle is at stake in the conflict, which is in fact quite childish : it is to see who is the strongest, and we can not agree on this point without resorting to showdown. Beyond a great pugnacity abreaction, I do not think much will come out of the war, because obviously Germany can not win, any more than it really can not be overwritten, and even though the Bosnia, Galicia and Alsace are swapped, the matter is not of great importance. But it is as if Germany were to keep a lasting hatred of England, This is unfortunate but seemingly inevitable.

I would love to have some insight into your personal attitude towards the war, and how far you are concerned. The fact that your son is involved are of course likely to make a big difference.

On a personal level, little nine. Customer continues to in-crease, but I find the time to do something else. I finished my book on the treatment and I am now tackling the translation of articles Ferenczi¹². The British response, Reply to German Professors : Reasoned Statement by British Scholars, appeared in the Times of 21 October 1914, p. 10. Jones has also probably noticed the personal positions of various scientists. I remember back to your memories and would like to ask how you are, you and yours, and what new you have received from your eldest son. Have you been long in Germany, Professor? So far we have been busy days, sometimes serving as a hospital for wounded, sometimes a hospital for victims of epidemics. At the moment we do except typhus few infectious diseases. The past months have destroyed my hope of returning home by the end of this year. Theaters of operations continue to expand. Many of our analysts have been recruited, Professor?

Dear Professor,

Firstly I would like to share a strange twist of fate. I forgot to mention in the analysis - as I have had time - a very unpleasant nasal symptoms, who had also disappeared for about a year ; it is, for me, the subjective sensation of a constant smell of ammonia. My Ent said this would come from the excitement of the ethmoidal cells or the olfactory nerve. But I think now it is, for the olfactory nerve, a sign of excitement similar to what happens with me also in the areas of auditory and optic nerves (as a result of poor circulation?). I noted with admiration that you take your work seriously to my portrait. Probably is this your usual way of working.

I look forward to the great comments that you promised to Moses. As I have not yet received, I do not want to wait for more tests and refer you to write this letter. I hasten to tell you, even before having read your comments, I am fully aware of the fundamental flaw of my work : have wanted to consider the artist a rational, as if it were a researcher or technician, while we are dealing with a being of a particular species, to a superior, autocrat, impious and sometimes quite elusive.

A little book I wrote about Leonardo da Vinci (1) will probably not your taste. It assumes that the reader should not be shocked by homosexual issues and the tortuous paths of psychoanalysis are familiar to. The book is also fictionalized as half. I do not want you to judge by the example of the accuracy of our other discoveries. I send you at the same time as a small band thing( 2) Regarding the rest to another art.

Here are the critical observations that you have requested (I've amalgamated those of my wife and others). They were made possible by your remark according to which we can be assured of our incompetence. Otherwise, I would not dare to make any sort of criticism. I myself am, doubtless, most of all incom-petent. One, nevertheless, you really want to know my opinion, I hope you will accept with good grace the following few thoughts. Your etching etching seems to be a charming idealization. This is the portrait I would like and I may be in the process of doing but, in any case, I stopped on the way. Everything in me is ruffled "and angular, you have wavy and rounded. In my opinion, there is an accessory that night likeness : how you treated my hair. 6. Marco Levi Bianchini (1875-1961), psychiatre italien, professor at the University of Naples and editor of the journal Manicomio II. From 1909, he became interested in psychoanalysis, while expressing reservations regarding the theory of sexuality. In 1919, he met Edoardo Weiss and meets Italian first psychoanalytic group that keeps an unofficial. In 1920, the fuses revue du General Archive Neurology and Psychiatry (where added, in 1921, the mention and Psychoanalysis). Founding member, in 1925, and honorary president until his death, of the Italian Society of Psychoanalysis ; also member of the Viennese (1922-1936), the Italian company that is not part of the International Psychoanalytic Association. Although a member of the Fascist Party, it is suspended from his duties 1938, because of his Jewish origin. It is one of the few members of the Italian Society not to emigrate and even published an article on Freud 1940,

His translation of the Five Lectures on Psychoanalysis (Freud, 1910a [1909]) published in 1915 and is the first volume published by Biblioteca psichiatrica, founded by himself, here deviendra par la suite Library psichoanalitica internationale.
