Jean-Michel Vappereau — Comments on the Sokal Affair — 1996
Richard Klein’s transcript of Jean-Michel Vappereau’s comments on the “Sokal affair” in 1996. The “Sokal affair” or “Sokal hoax” was an instance of intentional academic fraud conducted by Alan Sokal, a physics professor at New York University and University College London. Sokal submitted a paper laced with jargon that appealed to the ideological sensibilities of the editors of Social Text, a renowned journal in cultural studies. These are Vappereau’s comments on the situation, delivered sometime shortly after the Sokal publication.

This document is the first installment of the second argument, entitled “今日のすべての愛 ( 真実を書く主要なモード),” and introduces the argument between defining the subject of the unconscious qua Freud and Lacan, and also of discourse, which can be articulated relative to mathematics.
