My long silence must have been caused by resistance ; but I do not know what the update was.

The analytical point of view, My condition can now characterize the following : I feel quite comfortable in the military situation homosexual; something in me seems to perfectly accommodate. Martin, I believe, leaves for Russia 28 November. He sent me a card pos-tal you, as V. Emden, and I received the letter of your friend archaeologist¹. Received today Jekels, via In. Emden, his article on Napoleon², that interest me at the highest point ; would you be kind enough to thank, because I did not address, I would be greatly obliged if you could send me magazines, whose Yearbook, via In. Emden ; D^r Bishop³ will visit him and go look for them during his next visit to The Hague. Loe and I also share all the letters, etc., we get, so as to have the latest news to you and your family. We especially look forward to hearing your son's fate, and know what happens Rank and Sachs.

I would give much to have an hour with you, I fear that we should postpone until summer 1916, perhaps, and I do not know about how to start a letter. I sincerely hope that you can distract some attention from the war, and focus on more productive tasks, ensure that the writings that come out of your increased leisure compensate, to a certain extent, other things (what Ferenczi called nachkriechende lust (4)). I get occasional German newspapers, and I knew and what our press says about poverty and cholera in Vienna in Galicia was greatly exaggerated. In return, I ask you to believe that the Bank of England has not been destroyed by bombs, to l’ Egypt and India have not revolted, our coasts and have not been bombed by the German fleet ! There is no animosity here against Austria, the idea being that it has been exploited by Germany. A distinction is made between smart Prussia and the rest, and resentment is great against his brutal arrogance and disregard for conventions of The Hague. It is hard to see how vital principle is at stake in the conflict, which is in fact quite childish : it is to see who is the strongest, and we can not agree on this point without resorting to showdown. Beyond a great pugnacity abreaction, I do not think much will come out of the war, because obviously Germany can not win, any more than it really can not be overwritten, and even though the Bosnia, Galicia and Alsace are swapped, the matter is not of great importance. But it is as if Germany were to keep a lasting hatred of England, This is unfortunate but seemingly inevitable.

I would love to have some insight into your personal attitude towards the war, and how far you are concerned. The fact that your son is involved are of course likely to make a big difference.

On a personal level, little nine. Customer continues to in-crease, but I find the time to do something else. I finished my book on the treatment and I am now tackling the translation of articles Ferenczi¹². The British response, Reply to German Professors : Reasoned Statement by British Scholars, appeared in the Times of 21 October 1914, p. 10. I remember back to your memories and would like to ask how you are, you and yours, and what new you have received from your eldest son. Have you been long in Germany, Professor? So far we have been busy days, sometimes serving as a hospital for wounded, sometimes a hospital for victims of epidemics. At the moment we do except typhus few infectious diseases. The past months have destroyed my hope of returning home by the end of this year. Theaters of operations continue to expand. Many of our analysts have been recruited, Professor?

Dear Professor,

Firstly I would like to share a strange twist of fate. I forgot to mention in the analysis - as I have had time - a very unpleasant nasal symptoms, who had also disappeared for about a year ; it is, for me, the subjective sensation of a constant smell of ammonia. My Ent said this would come from the excitement of the ethmoidal cells or the olfactory nerve.
