Dear Jones,

I had no particular reason to send you this famous warning at the time of my last letter. By giving you the back of my mind, This con-cern has arisen among others, and I have expressed. I am happy to answer your.

Since then, Loe you wrote, I know, so I do not have to give you fresh news, but I will soon, soon as it can be examined by a urologist. The young couple behaves well. As far as I can guess, future arrangements depend in large part on the state of the kidney, of which will be determined next week.

Enclosed clippings of British Medical Journal that interested me at the highest point, and passing Wells, about which you can without difficulty make a note for your review Varia, the Magazine. I have now completed the two Beiträge historical sense⁽³⁾. They are quite incisive, and, I hope, not too boring. I hesitate to make the manuscript more travel land and sea. There will be time for your comments and suggestions.

Dear Professor,

Jelgersma delivery and letter were major events. I did not know that Heller wanted to acquire this item, It is for this reason that I immediately wrote Jelgersma, the suggestion of Abraham, asking him to send it to us for the Zeitschrift. This does not preclude Heller also publish, drawn in to share. Attached is a letter typically "Zurich" of Ophuijsen¹ on the same theme. He thinks that "Jelgersma is too well adapted" and wants to "eliminate youth". Here, I had an interview with criminologist, Dr. Rustem Vámbéry (son died from the Orientalist). He asked me to write an article for his paper on the applicability criminalo-psychological psychoanalysis ⁴.

Sending you the transcript of my remarks during our discussion on the mysteries of Berlin with the resurrection Zurich¹, I want to leave you to decide whether it would be justified to add to criticism of Ferenczi, Abraham, Rank and Sachs my own contribution (for example, in Zeitschrift)².

1. The 11 February, Abraham wrote to Freud (F/A, p. 160) : "There is a few weeks", that is to say the 17 January, "We had a meeting of our group, with four presentations on case Jung " (see Corr.). Eitingon participated with a contribution to "On the unconscious in Jung and his turn to ethics" (1914a). A point of criticism was the attempts by the Zurich group to transform the "Oedipus complex pagan Christian symbolism of the resurrection" (p. 103).

2. The first issue of the 2^and year (1914) Release of the Zeitschrift was a number anti-Zurich, with critical texts by Ferenczi, Abraham, Jones, etc. (p. 62- 87 ; see also Ferenczi 1913). Contribution Eitingon (1914a) was also ac-cepted. When Ferenczi read the text on the events, he wrote to Freud (F/Fer 1/2, p. 290) : "The surprisingly strong polemic against the sabotage of the concept of the unconscious was a surprise to me. "Rank and Sachs also wanted to publish an article in the Jahrbuch debate entitled" What psychoanalysis? "Which was then removed. Voir Schröter (1995a, including p. 526 and notes 22).

Professor of psychiatry (1899-1930) at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands - the clinic of the city bears his name -, had held, the 9 February 1914, for 339^and anniversary of the founding of the University, rectorial a speech on "The unconscious mental life" (this text was published in 1914, Supplement as the Zeitschrift). In 1920, Jelgersma founded the Association for Psychoanalysis and psychopathology Leiden, who maintained good relations with the Dutch Psychoanalytic Association.
2. Albert William of Renterghem (1845-1939). Neurologist and psychiatrist, an early supporter of Freud Netherlands. Director of the Institute of Psychotherapy Amsterdam. Freud mentions Jelgersma and Renterghem in "Contribution to the history of the psychoanalytic movement" (1914d, p. 104, and notes 1).

Dear Professor Freud,

You should have received my long letter, with attachments, just after sending yours. You are exceedingly good to me if constantly, but I would not waste your time or overwhelm you so undue burdens, and I want you to feel as free as you please in this regard. Especially it is necessary during concentration on important work, and I'm glad to hear that you attach so much interest in the article Yearbook, to be his-toric and landmark, and enter at this point in detail¹.

I'm sorry to hear that again found pus in the urine Loe, like the good old days. We always thought a pyelitis of the left side, but the last operation showed nothing visible to the naked eye in the renal pelvis (which has been thoroughly examined), and we hoped that it was therefore Benin, in any case it did not explain a small part of the pain. We had a meeting on Thursday, where Bryan presented the case on which he had sent you some notes ; it provoked a good discussion. Forsyth and his men are promising. Hart was also present, but hardly participated. Constance Long was there, return five weeks of "analysis" with Jung; she said there have been a lot of fun (Have fun a true analysis, this is a shame !). The case, you remember, was that of a man who managed all, but who had a sexual fixation on masochistic fantasies which left him no desire to have sex with women. We learned that the true explanation was that he hid in his "job" - have a house of his own instead of pantoufler, and he hid feigning helplessness, was purely symbolic and had a secondary meaning ! ! She has been foolish from start to finish and so Jung repeated like a parrot that can do good in the eyes of discrediting undecided as Eder and Hart.

Sachs was excited by a passage of H. G. Wells, I enclose, and contain most of your theory of taboo. I know that Wells got there three years ago, bringing together the writings of Darwin, Frazer, Robertson Smith, and other, but it does not measure the extent of its accidental discovery. It is never further evidence of the inevitability of your theory.

The British Medical Journal this week contained no more letters on the PsA, but an account of the new review of Jelliffe, in which they welcomed the conversion of Jung as a "return to a more healthy life³ ». Our opponents are on his relapse diagnosis more accurate than himself and his followers. The passage, Did you read the note in penetrating Stekel Zentralblatt [of October⁴] December? "It is as fine as spiteful revenge, the young to the [Wiener] School takes, he Sadger as the sole representative “train[in]bre-responding Viennese School” parading in the yearbook can (5). Side work, the situation is excellent. One of my patients has gone, his case does not lend, another because she had finished, but I still have six hours per day, with materials exceedingly interesting. I feel much more confident and able to work than ever before, I believe and succeed. A case of manic-depressive typical projects more light on this state. Everything happens, in my eyes, as if there was no such disease, certain cases involving psychoneurosis, others paraphrenia (particularly, of paranoia), the primacy of affective symptoms replacing other distortion mechanisms (as sometimes happens in dreams). But I'll get longer again.

It seems that the case is a great thing Jelgersma. I had already received, by Renterghem, before your letter, brochures and a copy of the newspaper. I received the following day a letter from him, which confirms everything that you tell, and is very friendly. Here is a psychiatrist who swallows Official psychoanalysis Ugly! What do not we see!

I will send you a letter as soon as Ferenczi has sent me and it has been read Wednesday. Heller intends to write and push for a German edition. The text would not be appropriate at all for the Zeitschrift, since it does not, I believe, an inch beyond the’ Interpretation of Dreams. I just finished, there was one hour, the manuscript of "Contributions to the history of the Psychoanalytic Movement". They are en route to Budapest and they will succeed since there, as a first contribution to the Jahrbuch from me. The work was difficult. Everything seems to be going well for the Jahrbuch; I hope that the writers quickly deliver their work. The report has already reached Sadger. I myself am still in the "drive to see", I hope to have finished in a week or two; I then put my account.

We had, there a few weeks, very satisfactory meeting of our group, which included 4 Jung reports on the case. There reigns the most comprehensive agreement.

Today, in this dark time, a ray of light. Renterghem^the sent me a newspaper which is a detailed account of the rectorial speech Jelgersma, psychiatrist Leiden, which focused on the unconscious ². As you may- be unaware, I'll talk briefly : J.

(N.B. : the most prominent psychiatrists Dutch) accept in their entirety the dream theory and the theory of neurosis, it considers major acquisitions, it also takes fully advantage of the sexuality, and speaks to finish strong impression made on him the rediscovery of the Oedipus complex. A very thorough, one somme, approval and without restrictions or clauses. I just sent Ferenczi a short extract from the minutes of Holland, and I asked him to ask Jelgersma allow the translation of his speech to the Zeitschrift.

Here, I had dinner and I learned writing by Rank that you had written criticizing the latest manifestation of Jung. Your causticity made me very happy. Our number is critical and rich content, unfortunately, printing has not started.

I can only, for you and for Hungary, public discussion of your project. Your temperament and your repartee guarantee perfectly the outcome. The public interest in the psychoanalytic declines probably also in Russia, Poland, etc., where it was not properly

established during the first period of invasion. It's not like Germany and America.

I would be delighted if you could bring your friend to try out for the two drawings of Moses. Those of Miss Wolf ⁽¹⁾ unsatisfactory. The engraver Max Pollak, who "chisel engraved" my portrait Heller ⁽²⁾, has now promised to provide these drawings also. But that should not hold you back. My hesitations are not overcome and I certainly shall prevent the publication if the designer can not compete effectively, this is- ie, first, convince me.

I write, with great zeal, "History of the psychoanalytic movement." I hope to have worked quite well on Sunday Jung, and thus closed the chapter. Two- I send the manuscript first? He would then return it to me with your comments, so he can go, via Vienna, par Hitschmann, by Abraham.
